Barnet - Learning Disability week 2016

The Barnet Learning Disability service held a cake sale during LD week 2016 to raise some funds and to raise awareness within the local services around good practice when working with people with a Learning Disability

The Barnet LD Services are an integrated health and social care team who are based in the local authority building. Team Lead Physio, Claire Browning says - We are constantly working to raise awareness within the local services around good practice when working with people with a LD. For the National LD week we held a Cake Sale to raise money for the annual ‘Happy Healthy Fun Day’ event which will be in September. The Happy healthy fun day is aimed at raising the awareness of looking after your general health care needs and has lots of different stalls and activities during the day. This year this will include a stall looking at good respiratory care and 2 giant balance classes!

We promoted the cake sale at our weekly Senior Management briefing and took the opportunity to give some facts and figures about the LD population in Barnet. We also promoted how to refer to our team and welcomed people to come and chat should they ever have any questions or need advice. When people bought a delicious cake they were also given an LD fact sheet, containing info about our team, statistics about LD and our contact details.

We raised £151.18! A great start to making our health promotion event a success! Pictured are some of the lovely cakes on offer
